Bras Creux Nursery

Competition for a 60-place nursery

The project fits into the fabric of Bras Creux through a composition of simple volumes whose scale matches that of the neighbourhood and of its young users. Breaking the programme down avoids too institutional a reading of the building and creates a welcoming whole, easily identified as a public building.

The layout favours short, intuitive routes and a direct relationship between the indoor spaces and the outdoor play areas. The different units thus enjoy sheltered and open spaces, supporting supervision, independence and outdoor activities alike.

Through its siting and its relationship to the landscape, the nursery seeks to reconcile functionality, protection and openness, in an everyday setting suited to the children and to the staff who look after them.
